In September 2016, the FDA approved Medtronic’s MiniMed 670G hybrid closed looped system.

This was the first FDA-approved device that is intended to automatically monitor glucose (sugar) and provide appropriate basal insulin doses with little or no input from the user.

It works by measuring glucose levels every five minutes and automatically administering or withholding insulin via the insulin pump strapped to the body.

On 9th September 2016, BTG announced the launch of X, a Radiation Safety Programme, designed to reduce the risk of radiation exposure when performing selective internal radiation therapy (SIRT) with Therasphere.

What are GMPs?

The formal definition can be found on the website of any regulatory agency - But in very basic terms, GMPs are a set of practices that help to prevent errors, mix-ups and contamination in the manufacturing site to ensure that patients receive safe and effective medicinal products.

Now imagine what it must be like to see your child die nonetheless because the drugs you bought were fake.

That is the brutal reality of the multi-billion dollar global trade in counterfeit drugs.

To combat this scourge of counterfeit drugs, the global Pharma Industry introduced the Serialization project.

In this project, every individual saleable unit of pharmaceutical drugs or medical devices will have a unique identifier (a 2D data matrix code) that can be scanned at any point along the supply chain to verify the product’s authenticity.

All manufacturers of medicinal products must comply to the serialization standards if they want to sell their products.
