President Trump’s January 27th immigration and refugee admission restrictions have run afoul of Federal courts with a San Francisco U.S. Court denying the government’s request to stay the Friday order from a Seattle judge blocking the Executive Order. The Trump EO called for:
Permanent halt to admitting Syrian refugees.
6-month travel ban on citizens of majority Muslim population countries.
90-day travel ban on citizens from Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen; and a 120-day ban on all refugees.
120-day ban on citizens from Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen; and a permanent ban on all refugees who fail guidelines for “extreme vetting.”
In her first appearance at the UN Security Council US Ambassador Nikki Haley condemned Russia over its actions in Ukraine just as violence in the east of the country surged. Her comments were notable considering her boss, President Trump, said as a candidate in August that Putin and Russia had no plans to act in Ukraine despite having already annexed this region:
