Bystander Scenerios

Scenerio 1: You are at a party. You notice one of your male friends has been talking to a young woman. They seem to be having a good time but it is clear that the woman has had too much to drink. A few minutes later you see him put his arm around the young woman and start to lead her upstairs. What do you do?

Think nothing of it. She doesn't look like she's in a struggle. Plus your friend is a good guy, he would never do anything stupid.

Pull your friend aside and tell him it's a bad idea and try to talk him out of it. .

Come up with an excuse to separate your friend from the woman. For example, tell the woman her friends are looking for her and take her to them..

Scenerio 2: You overhear your neighbour in the next room arguing with his boyfriend. This is not unusual, but it sounds a little more heated than usual. But you're concerned because the boyfriend is known to have a violent streak.

Mind your own business. They fight all the time.

Show up at your neigbour's door and demand the boyfriend leaves or you will call the police.

Show up at your neighbour's door and ask him if he is ok. At the very least you'll know if you need to get help.

Call campus security and have them follow up.

Scenerio 3: You're heading towards the campus parking lot late at night when you pass a young woman being followed and cat called by a young man.

Ask her if she's okay and if she needs help.

Scenerio 4: You're hanging out with a group of friends when one of them makes a rape joke.

Laugh along--it's just a joke after all.

Explain that the joke is not funny and explain why. If they think you're lame, oh well!

Berate your friend and everyone else who laughed.

Leave the room and never speak to them again.
