Would you support Iwi Kaitiaki intervention to help our frogs survive longer dry spells, droughts and extreme rain events on Takapourewa? This may include stabilizing slopes that are prone to rainfall-induced slips, constructing new areas of rocky habitat, or installing water storage, shade and irrigation.

One of the reasons why Takapourewa is so special is because it's free of introduced predators. To keep Takapourewa predator free requires strict biosecurity protocols (e.g quarantine, no public access).

Are you opposed to heightening our island biosecurity measures to reduce predator incursion risk on Takapourewa? If you are opposed, please state why.
Fire is one of the greatest risks to vegetation, wildlife and people on the island. There are already strict protocols around ignition sources. There is no natural water source on the island, and our ability to fight fires is extremely limited.

Translocation is when you move a species from location to another. This is one of the tools we sometimes use for the conservation of theatened species. It's always best to try to preserve a species where it is naturally found, but sometimes this isn't the best option. Translocations can be used to create back up populations, to improve genetics, to increase numbers or if the conditions at the original site can't be protected or improved.
