Caleb is very enjoyable to work with. He is very energetic and willing to help in every area of the accounting office. Caleb will go above and beyond his work responsibilities to help get any job needed done. Caleb's smile and enthusiasm is awesome in this working atmosphere. Caleb's professionalism is great. He love's fishing and shows us all of his amazing pictures. Caleb is the only male and very young at that, working in the Accounting office here at State Farm Correctional Complex. He also has a sister which helps him to deal with us women in the accounting office.

I am nominating Ms. Jordan because she embodies all of the characteristics that one would want in a coworker. She is always the first one in the office, always volunteers to help her coworkers in any way that she can, and goes above and beyond to keep the office clean and tidy. Barbara is upbeat and positive and is a joy to work with.

I would like to nominate Sarah James for employee of the month. Only being here just over a year, she has shown exemplary skills in leadership and values. There have been numerous times she has had to cover for the Psych Senior and also for Dr. Laaksonen at SFEU and Beaumont. Ms. James has covered RHU and also VCU Security care in her supervisor’s absence, besides taking on all buildings and making sure everything is run smoothly. She has done an awesome job with helping and caring for the inmates and I truly believe she has made an impact on their well-being. Ms. James has kept the discharge summaries up to date so that inmate release will have no issues and has a great relationship with our counselors. Besides covering for Mental Health in her supervisor’s absence, completing her tasks, and helping inmates, she has taken on being a SMS trainer.

During the majority of the month of February, 2022, State Farm Correctional Complex experienced a staff shortage in the mailroom. Ms. Mathena willingly stepped up and helped to ensure the mailroom operations continued to run without delay. She went over and beyond to ensure that the mail was picked up from the Post Office, State Farm Enterprise and State Farm Main. She showed a can do attitude and a true team player approach. She kept this supervisor as well as the Warden apprised of any issues regarding the mailroom during that period. She also gained additional support from the officers in training and cross-trained them on the basic operations. Additionally, she kept her own workload current and was well prepared for the monthly Regional Ombudsman’s visit. Ms. Mathena has a wealth of knowledge of the institutional operations and is a great asset to the Operations Department and State Farm Correctional Complex. I am very happy to have her on my team!!

I am nominating Bao for his support of all aspects of the Meat Plant process. He supervises the inmate staff and makes certain they follow the rules provided under our HACCP plan. He works with his co-workers to provide the best possible outcomes to our daily goals. Our USDA inspector communicates his needs to Bao and receives solutions to issues that may occur. Working relationships are very important to insure a food product that is correctly created and safely handled. As our inmate staff headcount changes daily, Bao has learned all tasks in the processing area to fill in as needed. When this is not necessary, he monitors the production and insures accuracy and results. He instills team building methods with our inmate work force so they do not think of themselves as islands. Each individual working together can succeed and overcome what appears to be insurmountable obstacles. For these reasons, I am nominating Mr. Nguyen.
