In this country, people save any broken dishes, plates, cups, or bowls throughout the year and on New Year’s Eve, as a way to wish good luck for the new year, they throw the broken dishware at the homes of friends and family or just simply leave a pile of broken plates on the doorstep of a loved one.

In this country, to bring children good luck, a long and healthy life, and plenty of intelligence, newborn babies are dropped off from the terrace of a 50-foot tower while a group of people at the base of the tower hold a sheet to safely catch the infant.

In this country, instead of burying their loved ones and leaving them there, people exhume the corpses of their fellow villagers. The corpse is dressed in special garments and paraded around the village. And if someone’s death took place outside the village, the corpse will be taken to the spot of death before being walked back to the village as an act of returning home.

Some tribes in this country have this tradition where the husband carries his wife and walks over burning coals barefoot. This is believed to help the wife have painless labor. And some believe that it prevents natural disasters. This tradition can be done as the husband and wife take their first step into their new home or when they know that the wife is pregnant.

On November the 25th each year, a festival is held for the local monkeys. Fruits, flowers, cake, and candy are set up buffet-style on tables in the downtown area. The monkeys are attracted by the food and come in hoards to enjoy their annual feast.

As a metaphor for the tough life that the bride might have to go through after the wedding, this country has a pre-wedding ritual of throwing eggs, spoilt milk and, basically, all things disgusting at her. The 'blackened bride' is then taken around the town. The tradition prepares her for the new chapter as after going through this, all marital problems will look tiny.
