Lakisha Coffey goes above and beyond the normal duties of a USO volunteer. She has recruited new volunteers, created and ran programs and volunteers almost every weekend at the DPC, when she is not already volunteering for Special Events. Kisha has over 427 volunteer hours with USO Kaiserslautern. She volunteers with Special Events as well as the Deployment Processing Center. She recently enjoyed the AFN radio spot and cannot wait to do it again. Kisha is on active duty with the 409th Contracting Support Brigade, where she serves as the Future Operations (FUOPS) Officer. When she is not volunteering every weekend at the DPC, she enjoys traveling and authoring novels. She is one of the co-authors of the "Who Killed Fat Leonard" murder mystery program. This program has been one of our Service Member's favorites and they have been begging Kisha for another one, which she has helped create. Kisha has also been responsible for our fun activities surrounding our holiday programs. She was instrumental during our Christmas Dinner and Grinch Visit. She brings a smile to everyone's face because she is always smiling and supporting our deployed service members. Kisha has been instrumental in recruiting new volunteer members to the DPC team. Thank you, Kisha, for choosing to volunteer with the USO at the Deployment Processing Center!
Megan Bishop is an invaluable volunteer. She is always ready to jump in and help out the Spangdahlem community. Megan has jumped headfirst into volunteering. Since being awarded Volunteer of the Month for March 2023 she has volunteered more than 90 hours. In March, she spearheaded our St. Patrick's Day Bingo event. She reached out to local home-based businesses and was able to procure 16 donations worth over $1500 for prizes. Megan is a passionate member of our Spangdahlem community. She helped serve 106 children at our Month of the Military Child 90s Dance Party. She served 107 community members at our Cup of Joe with Service Credit Union. She enjoys boosting the morale of our deployed service members and helped serve 70+ of them with a tie-dye event. She was an integral part of our support for the base's July 4 event. She popped countless batches of popcorn the day before the event, continued to make popcorn, and helped serve 2637 community members during the event. When she is not volunteering with the USO, you will see her substitute teaching at Spangdahlem Elementary School, coaching youth sports, supporting her husband's squadron, and being an active parent to her two children.
David Zimmerman is a remarkable individual who has earned a reputation as one of the most trusted and dependable USO volunteers. His innovative mindset and genuine love for his community and helping the wounded, ill and injured service members make him an invaluable asset. David's passion for housework is unparalleled, earning him the affectionate nickname "David the Handy Man." Whether it's hanging pictures or fixing any repair around the center, there is no task too daunting for him to tackle. His skills and expertise have made him the go-to person for all maintenance needs. David is not only a dedicated USO volunteer but also a military spouse and a veteran himself. Since November 2020, he has generously donated over 807 hours of his time to the USO mission, making a significant impact on the community. Living with his wife, Banner, a flight nurse, and their son Trevor, David has embraced the opportunity to give back to his fellow service members. As a former United States Marine Corps member, he understands the importance of service and is always seeking new ways to contribute. David's love for both volunteering and traveling Europe has allowed him to engage with and support the local Kaiserslautern community. His dedication and reliability have made him one of the USO's most cherished volunteers. David's willingness to give his time and service is greatly appreciated by the organization and the hundreds of people he helps at our center. David's dedication to maintaining a safe and welcoming environment for the wounded, ill, and injured service members at the USO center is truly remarkable. With his extensive skills and expertise, he takes on any repair task, ensuring that everything is in optimal condition. His commitment to making the center safe and comfortable for all is evident in his thorough repairs. One recent accomplishment that highlights David's skill set is the repair he performed on the gazebo that covers the grills, an essential component of the center. By fixing the gazebo, he not only ensured the safety of those using the grills but also extended the lifespan of the structure, saving the center from having to replace it. In addition to indoor repairs, David also takes care of the center's yard, showcasing his love for outdoor maintenance. From planting trees to cutting grass, raking, and pressure washing, he goes above and beyond to keep the outdoor area looking immaculate. David's talents extend beyond repairs and maintenance. His grilling skills shine during special events and dinner gatherings, effortlessly preparing meals for up to 100 service members.
Katie McCormick is truly passionate about helping others and having a good time. She has taken lead on several programs and is always looking for more ways to get the community together for a fun time. She amped up our monthly gaming, she comes up with bright new fresh ideas such has Harry Potter Trivia which gave us one of the most gaming TSI's. This month she will be leading our single Solder cooking Class by teaching barracks service members how to cook a quick savory Polish meal. She has also volunteered for just about every event we've hosted. She is just incredible and committed to our USO mission to our Military Community. Katie McCormick has shown exceptional contributions in creating and organizing engaging activities such as gaming programs which gave us the highest TSI rating, crafting programs, and large-scale events such as Block and Roll, Tree Lighting, and 80' Birthday Bash. To name a few. During MOMC Circus, Katie led our music booth, she taught kids how to line dance to specific songs, and so many people loved it that they joined her. She has excited our gaming with her love for playing. She has assisted and led several programs with perfect turns outs. Her dedication to enhancing the volunteer experience and fostering community through these creative initiatives demonstrates Katies commitment, leadership, and ability to unite people. Her efforts contribute significantly to the organization's goals and mission, making them an amazing volunteer! We are so happy to have her a part of our team.
Cortney is always a go-to Volunteer when we need something. She began volunteering in September 2022 and has accrued over 250 hours and counting. In the past year, Cortney has become a trusted Volunteer with Ramstein to train new volunteers and be a mentor during shifts and run the Center alone or with other volunteers. She steps in when needed and sometimes without asking. Cortney is always one of the first to offer her assistance when flights move, and we need extra hands around the Center. Early on, she set a goal to volunteer with each Center, which she achieved within the first half of this year. Cortney enjoys experiencing the different Centers and impacting her community and the other communities around her. Cortney may call Ramstein her home Center, but she truly enjoys working with all the Centers when she can. She understands how the Mission is supported differently between the Centers and has taken the chance to grow as a USO volunteer and learn from each Center. Cortney has volunteered with the Warrior Center on multiple occasions as a Center Representative, helping patrons when they come in and assisting with maintaining the Center. Not long after completing her shadow shift at the Warrior Center, Cortney tested the waters with the DPC. With the DPC, Cortney volunteered for several events, either during the event or preparing for the event. She also assisted with maintaining the Center for normal operations and helping prepare snacks throughout the day. After experiencing the Centers close to home, Cortney decided it was time to venture out. With some coordination, she assisted Spangdalhem and Baumholder with one of her favorite programs, Coffee Connections! Both Centers are more challenging for her to get out to due to the distance, but she immensely enjoyed her time with them.
