2017-2018 Student Council Election - Class of 2019

President - Choose 1
Hannah Horsington - I have been involved in student council since 6th grade, and I greatly enjoy it. I love being in a leadership position and getting to represent my class. I believe that input from the student body is very important, so I always try to listen to my classmates and see what they think about student council’s ideas. I have many ideas for next year, that include both my personal thoughts, and ideas from other students/teachers. These ideas include painted parking spaces, a student committee that is involved in planning homecoming, and ways to increase school spirit. I hope I receive more input from students in how they would like to see those ideas instituted. These are the reasons why I am running for a student government position, and how I plan to represent my class.
Vice President - Choose 1
Jen Spires - I am running for student council because I have taken part in student council for the past two years and I enjoy helping out with the activities hosted by the council. I want to continue being involved in the school and make a difference to the students and the faculty. I’d also like to share ideas I have to make the school a great place as well as communicate and collaborate with other council members. By being involved in the council next year, I’d have the opportunity to represent my classmates in a positive light. I will do this by being more involved in the school to make changes happen showing that us Lakewood students care about our learning environment. I’d also try my best to get the rest of the community more involved. By hyping up certain events hosted the the student council, we could change the atmosphere of the school completely. If I am a part of council next year, I will work hard to make a difference to this school and get people to join me in being immersed in activities and change planned by student council.
Garrett Thomas - I am running as I am a current member of the student council, and I feel it is important to be involved with the school. I like to give back to the people. Student council will help me achieve this. I also am in another leadership position out of school, I feel I can bring my knowledge from. I am deputy cadet commander in my civil air patrol (us air force auxiliary) squadron. I am also the recorder on the OHIO WING CIVIL AIR PATROL CADET ADVISORY COUNCIL. I will represent fellow classmates by sharing info with the right people to better our school.
Secretary - Choose 1
Mickayla Malone - I want to help our class be more involved. I think being a secretary I could help better relay information to the students. I believe I’m a responsible person enough to represent my class.
Abigail Smith - I am running for a student government position because I want to make a difference and have a say in what is happening at this school. I feel like it’s always been disorganized in student council and I would like to help make it less complicated. I would like to represent classmates by bringing up their opinions in meetings and inviting them to meetings to speak in the student participation section.

Allysse Biddle - There are many reasons as to why I am running for a student government position. One of the reasons is due to the fact that I feel as if being a part of Student Council will help me to solidify being a well-rounded student by being involved in this, choir, band as well as advanced classes. Another reason is that Student Council will help me to be even more involved with my career as a student and involvement in what happens around me everyday. I will represent my classmates by asking them for and give Student Council their ideas from what they believe will help to make school functions even more enjoyable as well as try to give my classmates a say to what goes on around them.

As part of several updates to the building, Lakewood High School will have a new student center beginning next year. This center will be located where the 1st floor locker bay is currently, and will include the Guidance and Get On Track! offices, a conference room, and a student lounge area. Since this is a center for the students, it is fitting that students have the privilege of choosing the center’s name. What would you like to name the new student center?
