Capacity Assessment

When a new opportunity comes up...
Your adrenaline is high and you find a way to make this work.
You don't think twice and turn it down, although it might be beneficial and the right opportunity for you.
You painfully turn it down because you are exhausted.
You take the time to evaluate your current commitments and whether the opportunity is aligned with your goals.
When you are asked to commit to something new, your self talk sounds like:
You don't really have the time! But you can probably squeeze it in!
While that sounds great, it's not really the time or aligned with my goals right now.
Nope! Can't even go there and commit to anything new!
Flattered they thought of me, but I'm probably going to say no.
When your plate gets full, you attempt to regain balance of your commitments and obligations by:
Making a list of new opportunities, prioritizing them and planning to check them all off. No matter what.
Pacing your energy and not accepting any new opportunities just yet.
Halting most communication with the outside world and going silent for a while.
Reevaluating your obligations and re-assessing which ones are of the highest priority.
When you are bored, you:
Look for new opportunities and commit quickly.
Sit back and analyze your current obligations without committing to anything new.
Distract yourself with non-productive activities (surfing social media, netlfix binge, etc.).
Evaluate your current opportunities and figure out which ones needs more attention.
When the stars are aligned and all seems manageable, it's usually because:
You're good at pulling it off.
Mostly luck.
You made it work even though you didn't think you had it in you.
You planned it that way.
When you find yourself over-committed, you:
Overindulge in sensual pleasure (i.e. Netflix marathons, social media binges, video gaming until the wee hours, excessive snacking and caffeine consumption etc).
Go into hibernation and distract yourself with anything and everything but your actual commitments.
Become so overwhelmed you find yourself scattered, and inefficient and in burnt out state.
Step back and take time to re-evaluate your commitments and are ready to resign from one if needed.
When you're on top of your game, you:
Feel like a super hero, so you take on new commitments.
Are cautious as this rhythm can be interrupted at any point.
Rarely feel this way because you're typically overwhelmed with everything that needs to be done.
Feel proud of how you've respected your capacity in order to achieve this positive rhythm at work and at home.
When procrastination creeps in, you:
Become distracted by short sighted instant gratification opportunities and ignore your long term goals.
Entertain it because you can and have the capacity.
Become overly dependent on others and place unrealistic demands on those around you.
Immediately pivot and set goals to ensure you’re aware of what you need to achieve.
When you are feeling like you need to back out of a commitment, it mainly sounds like this:
I hate disappointing people! So I'll just push through even though it might kill me!
I don't typically find the need to back out commitments.
I can’t do it all. I just can’t get it all done! I will have to break this commitment unfortunately.
I will need to discuss this as soon as possible in order to manage expectations.
Which statement best represents your high capacity nature:
So proud of what I've been able to pull off! Not sure how I did it, but I did!
People encourage me to get involved and share my talents more.
My high capacity nature is a curse more than a blessing!
I approach my capacity with intention and focus so I don't waste it away.
