Tomorrow’s ride is going to be a century in 100-degree heat. What time do you set your alarm?
4:30am. Gotta beat the heat.
5am. Gotta beat the heat, but I’m fast to get ready in the morning.
7am. Sleep is priority even if it means I get a later start.
I don’t set an alarm. I just wake up when other people are moving around.
What are your riding essentials?
So much food. I’m always hungry while riding
Sunscreen. I’m scared of skin cancer
First aid. I’ve taken a few falls
About 7 Clif bars, a hand pump, a spare tube, sunscreen, phone charger, and first aid. I need to be completely self-sufficient
What do you put in your water bottles?
Only water. I don’t believe in electrolytes
Only Gatorade. I need electrolytes
One of each. I need water to rinse out the Gatorade flavor
Lemonade or sweet tea if our host has it
Rain is making the trail on the route muddy and slow. You can take the trail or go on a highway with minimal shoulder, many cars, and limited visibility with the water vapor. What do you do?
The trail will take too long. Highway it is.
Spend 20 minutes discussing the pros and cons and eventually get on the highway
The rain is quite heavy so you stop at a cafe to wait it out. What do you order?
Burger and fries

How do you ride your bike?
Without braking on the downhills
Alternate coasting and pedalling
So stable you could balance a book on my helmet
Only when covered in compression sleeves from the knee down
The US-50 scenery is starting to get old. What do you do?

I never get bored because I’m focusing on drafting within a foot of the person in front of me
You arrive at the lunch spot. What goes in your bagel (besides the obligatory official food of MIT Spokes 2024—”humou”)?
Salami and any cheese that’s not waterlogged
Black forest ham and no cheese (American cheeses are inferior)
Turkey and pepper jack
Tofurky (preferably the smoked ham one)
