Postpartum Depression and Relationship Satisfaction

CONSENT FORM


Identification of Researchers: This research is being conducted by Alexis Williams along with my advisor Dr. Kennith Carter. We are with the University of Central Missouri in the department of psychology of science. 


Purpose of the Study: The purpose of this study is to examine weather new mothers who has had children in the past two years are more susceptible to postpartum depression when they are in an unhealthy relationship. Postpartum depression affects around 10 to 20 percent of women and I would like to examine how the relationship status effects the amount of depression that occurs.

 

Request for Participation: We are inviting you to participate in a study on the effect of relationship satisfaction on postpartum depression. It is up to you whether you would like to participate. If you decide not to participate, you will not be penalized in any way. You can also decide to stop at any time without penalty. If you do not wish to answer any of the questions, you may simply skip them, no questions are required. Once you submit an anonymous survey, we will not know which survey or test is yours. 

Exclusions: You must be at least 18 years of age to participate in this study and have been diagnosed or self-diagnosed with postpartum depression. Participants must have given birth to a child that is the age of 2 or under. 

 

Description of Research Method: This study involves completing a survey about relationship satisfaction and postpartum depression. This study will take about 15 minutes to finish.

 

Privacy: All of the information we collect will be anonymous. We will not record your name, student number, or any information that could be used to identify you. Your confidentiality will be maintained to the degree permitted by the technology used. Specifically, no guarantees can be made regarding the interception of data sent via the Internet by any third parties.

 

Explanation of Risks: Participating in this study can cause emotional destress such as anxiety, sadness, fear, and anger. If any emotional destress is to occur you are available to call UCM counseling center at 660-543-4060, or you can call the 24-hour UCM crisis support line at 660-543-8008.

Explanation of Benefits: benefits include contributing to research as well as being able to know questions to help identify postpartum depression.
