Best of BC Diving Award
The Best of BC Diving Award is presented to a BC Diving member who is/has been a positive role model, whose actions, ideals and values have impacted others in a positive way. We received many great nominations this year, and it was difficult for the awards committee to narrow it down to 3 finalists.
Please vote only once for your choice of the Best of BC Diving award. You must be a paid member of BC Diving to vote.
Renee Batalla (Athlete)
Renee has been a member of BC Diving for many years, and has always shown her determination and dedication for the sport. She overcame many obstacles to the top of the Senior podium in 2022, and was a finalist for the Sport BC Junior Female athlete of the year. Renee also won the Junior Elite A group platform events, and won a silver at the World Age Group championships in Montreal in 2022.
Renee has been a bright light with many young divers and has provided so much encouragement to them all. Renee interacts with all the divers, regardless of age or ability, and she helps them feel important and special. Renee is a true role model for young divers and displays the qualities that all divers should look up to.
Catalina Giraldo O'Byrne (Coach)
Catalina's dedication to diving in BC is above and beyond. She is in the process of completing her Competition Development certification and an Instructor Beginner facilitator for developing coaches. Catalina has developed young divers to the High Performance athlete development program run by Diving Canada. She has worked in many programs across the province including the White Rock Divers guiding young divers as athletes but also to be great human beings. BC Diving is very fortunate to have Catalina as part of our coaching staff.
Christina Unger (Coach)
Christina has been an integral part of Kelowna Springboard Diving Club since 2009, and has lead the club as Head Coach for the past 7 years. The program has grown tremendously under her leadership.
Christina's dedication to the program is truly inspiring. She continually advocates for increased pool time, facility upgrades, and enhanced equipment, ensuring the athletes receive the best training possible for a small club.
Christina's impact extends far beyond training - she mentors and supports each athlete, helping them reach their full potential.
