Why or why not?
I am looking at the representation of television hosts and how daytime and late night television impact gender roles in society.
For example: Daytime talk shows are targeted toward women and air during a time when children are at school and men are at work. The content of these shows (Dr Phil, Oprah, Kathie Lee and Hoda, etc.) mainly include cooking, cleaning, and repairing relationships. This can imply that daytime shows are targeted toward stay-at-home moms and enforce the ideology that women are the child-bearers and maintain the household. On the other hand, late night comedic shows (Jimmy Kimmel Live, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, etc.) are dominated by male hosts and this can imply men who work long hours during the day watch TV late at night to unwind from their day and can enforce the stereotype that men are the bread-winners of the household. What is your opinion on these ideas and do you agree with them?
