Quantitative Research

What are the two types of Quantitative research?
Descriptive and comparative
Experimental
Norm research
Confounding research
What is descriptive research?
A component of all research studies (Qual or Qaunt)used to characterize subjects and other relevant circumstances in research
Uses if/then statements and provide evidence about probable cause
Has no correlation and is used in different experiments for exploratory measures.
What is univariate research design?
Should represent the people you want to study
Used to establish norms
Has no control group
Collects data on a single variable or series of single variables
Correlational research is what?
Is the most rigorous type of group comparison study
Is categorical
Is where the relationship between two or more variables are examined
Single subject research is an example of correlational descriptive research?
True
False
Correlational research design is different than experiments in the sense that there is no experimental control?

What is comparative research?
Is either correlational or univariate
Either experimental or non-experimental
Has a gold standard that everyone must follow for all research
There are 3 elements that characterize basic experiments what are they?
Categorical; continuous
1:1; yoking
Correlational/causation
Bleeding; fidelity
A dependent variable was covid symptoms & there were 4 independent variables; zinc, vit c, and nothing- is this an example of 1:1; yoking?
Yes
No
Categorical data is when there is one or two independent variables.
True
False
Only 1 independent variable
What is an example of bleeding fidelity?
The OT performed 5 mintes longer than the research intended, time got away from her.
The therapist put the kid on the therapy ball for exatly 10 minutes (no less no more)
You can't control things & you didn't mean to
What is a confounding variable?
Confining the participant into a small room
Variables you can't control and you didn't mean to introduce
Having a small participant
A small yappy dog is part of the research
A dependent variable is the part of the research that stays the same
True
False
This is the item you are hoping to change it is dependent on the thing I am implementing.
An example of a confounding variable would be? A client working 7 days in a row, a holiday, lack of sleep
True
False
What are threats to Methodological Rirgor?
Being married and not knowing it
Reporting a relationship where there is no real cause/relationship
Finding a new report and reporting it
Failure to find and report a realationship when the relationship actually exists
What is external validity?
Artificiality
Under-representative
Pre-post test design
Non randomized control groups
Artificiality is when a child is in their natural environment but has a few controls parameters.
True
False
It doesn't look like the real world
Under- represented sample, means that you have a mismatch between the sample and the intended population.
True
False
Single Subject research design is
Experimental deisgn with randomization and longitudinal outcome measures
Research that matches a sample that has a hypothesis
Type of descriptive resaerch that involves in depth analysis of the behavior of a single subject or relatively small group fo subjects.
Single subject research compares Joe with everyone else?
True
False
Not comparing him with anyone else
Muliptle baseline designs- is used when you want to look at attention to task and writing?
True
False
Used with the sameintervention applied to multiple behaviors sequentially
Alternating treatment designs is used for?
Is used for those who are perfectly healthy, but can't get to the research facility
Are used for clients with ALS, burns, and other victims that will change over time
Only used on animals
Social validation is?
Getting your friends approval
Use of questionnaires to particpants or stakeholders to see if the intervention is acceptable
Used by everyone who does research
Generalization means everyone can use it.
True
False
Good internal validity when well designed
Mixed method does not include descriptive/demographic information?
True
False
What are the types of data collection?
Mailed questionnaires
Direct administered questionnaires
Electronic questionnaires
Telephone/face to face interviews
Text messages/voicethreads
